Opinion: Jose Mourinho Is the Man For Tottenham

Jose Mourinho is known for his outstanding legacy at many elite European clubs such as Chelsea, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Inter Milan, and Porto. However, there has been a lot of controversy among Tottenham fans about whether Mourinho is the man for Tottenham.

Tottenham haven't won a major honor since 2008, when they won the League Cup. Spurs fans have been crying out for a trophy, but no manager has been able to bring a silverware back to White Hart Lane and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. When Levy appointed Mourinho as the manager at Tottenham, the goal was to win trophies at the club. Spurs fans were skeptical and divided over the signing of Jose Mourinho, but many were looking forward to the success he would bring to the club. However, recent results indicate the possibility of Mourinho getting sacked after his first full season at Tottenham. But, there are still many Spurs fans who support Mourinho and have faith in his ongoing project. These are the reasons why Mourinho is the man for Tottenham.

1. Players' Lack of Quality

Even before Jose arrived at the club, fans were skeptical about the lack of quality in the Tottenham squad. After Jose's first summer transfer window, squad depth improved by a high margin. Players such as Hojberg, Reguilon, and Rodon provide Tottenham with the much needed support. However, there are many positions where there is a need for investment such as right back, center back and right wing. There are many players that could play that position, but none have been consistent this season. Jose Mourinho is a manager who can deliver trophies, but he needs a squad that is strong and trustworthy. If Jose is to stay at the club for another season, fans will have to hope that he will be able to bring in the  players he desires.

2. Lack of Attitude

It was evident through the 'All or Nothing' documentary that there are certain players within the club that are lacking the winning attitude Mourinho wants. Jose Mourinho is a manager who firmly believes that his whole squad needs to adapt to his winning mentality, and players that don't will fall out with him. Dele Alli is an example of a player who has fallen out of favor due to his attitude. Dele is capable of becoming a great player, but Mourinho has identified that his attitude brings him down as a player. It was said in the documentary that Dele was "lazy" in training. This indicates that Jose looks for players who are hardworking rather than lazy in training. Fans do not know what goes on behind the scenes, so they must trust that Mourinho knows what he is doing.

3. Lack of Investment

Daniel Levy and the Tottenham hierarchy are known for spending very little in transfer windows. The Tottenham hierarchy's refusal to fully invest into the club made Pochettino suffer and he was sacked in a bitter ending with the club. Fans need to realize that the owner of the club needs to be sorted before the manager because it is evident throughout the years that investment has been a problem for Spurs. If Mourinho is given the money, he can bring in players that would massively improve the current mediocre squad. He has brought in the likes of Didier Drogba, Samuel Eto'o, Mesut Ozil, Luka Modric, Petr Cech, and more for his previous clubs.

Messi has said before that he is the greatest manager in the world, Ibrahimovic has said that he is the greatest manager ever, Ronaldo has also said he is a great manager. But, Tottenham's fanbase seems to have lost faith in him because of the "toxic" attitude he brings to the team. He has succeeded at Porto, Real Madrid, Chelsea, Inter Milan, and Manchester United, but why not Tottenham? People say Mourinho uses "dinosaur tactics", but he won trophies with those very same tactics. It's because of the lack of player quality, lack of investment and the poor mentality from the players. We are seeing the same problems with the team when Pochettino was at the club and these same players let him down and will do the same to Mourinho and future managers unless something changes in this club from the very top.
