Match Analysis:

Defense:
Defending has always been a problem at Tottenham Hotspur. However, at the start of the 2020/2021 Premier League season, Tottenham had one of the best defensive record in the league. Everything started falling apart after the draw against Crystal Palace in the Premier league. The defense against Brighton was unstable and had many gaps despite playing the more "trustworthy" center-back pairing.

Positioning mistakes from Davies and Rodon allowed Leandro Trossard to score a goal inside the box in the 17th minute. Rodon received a lot praise from Jose Mourinho after the Liverpool match, but failed to impress against Brighton.

Although Davies was named as the left midfielder in the 3-4-3, he mainly played as a LB in the match.

Sanchez was sacrificed at half-time in order for Jose Mourinho to bring on Vinicius. Sanchez didn't have an outstanding match, but he also wasn't the worst defender on the pitch.

Toby Aldeweireld made a crucial 1-on-1 clearance in the 84th minute to deny Brighton the 2-0 lead.

Sissoko was put into the RWB position after Aurier's outburst and Doherty's poor performances. He made several good crosses into the box, but was slow to recover defensively.

Midfield:
The midfield players did what was required of them, but were not rewarded at the end. Although the midfield wasn't outstanding, they helped in the transition from Tottenham's half to the Brighton's final third.

Hojberg had an average game playing as the holding midfielder. He made several attempts to send long balls to the attackers, but none were converted.

Ndombele didn't get many opportunities to show his skills on the ball in the match. He picked up an injury in the second half, so he was substituted off early.

Attack:
The Tottenham attack were without Harry Kane due to the injury he picked up against Liverpool. The absence of Harry Kane had a great impact on Tottenham because other attackers such as Son, Bale, and Bergwijn had a disappointing match against Brighton.

Tottenham started to create chances when Vinicius was substituted onto the pitch. There were several shots and long balls which gave the attackers chances to score. This may be a sign to Jose Mourinho that Vinicius should be starting in the duration of Kane's injury.

Tottenham play the likes of Chelsea, Everton(FA Cup), and Manchester City in their next five matches. However, several important Spurs players may not be available for these big games due to injuries. The likes of Sergio Reguilon(3 weeks), Harry Kane(3 weeks), Lo Celso(undated) may be unavailable for some of these crucial matches. The Tottenham players will need to pick up their heads after the disappointing performances against Liverpool and Brighton if they are to challenge for the Top 4. In Jose We Trust.
