Tottenham's MOTM: Davinson Sanchez
Match Analysis:
Defense:
Tottenham's poor defending was the main reason why Tottenham lost with the amount of goals that were conceded. Individual mistakes from the backline resulted in the goals.
Sanchez was the best defender and arguably the best player on the pitch against Everton. He scored a brace and was solid defensively.
Toby made some mistakes defensively which led to Everton creating chances
Lloris made several mistakes which directly led to the goals. This has been one of his worst matches in a Spurs kit.
Midfield:
There were many gaps in the midfield in the first half. Everton were allowed to dribble the ball through the defense and take a shot.
Hojberg had an off game against Everton. He didn't challenge for the ball as much in the first half. However, he helped out defensively in the second half by dropping into the backline at times.
Ndombele was able to create space for the attacking players by dribbling through the Everton midfield.
Attack:
Tottenham's attack were very lively throughout the match and the scoreline showed for it. Set pieces were executed well which led to multiple goals.
When Harry Kane came on, more balls were crossed into the box because the players knew that Kane could head them in. Kane also scored the equalizer in the 83rd minute which allowed Tottenham to take it to extra time.
Son Heung Min created several chances throughout the match. Most importantly, his crossing from corners was superb against Everton. Most of his crosses led to good chances or a goal.
Erik Lamela contributed to the fast flowing attacking football that Spurs produced. He also got a goal right before half time, which gave the players a confidence boost.
Spurs didn't deserve to lose against Everton, but the defending deserved to lose. Great mentality from the players to equalize even though they were trailing by a margin of 2 before the half time.
Tottenham play Manchester City next in the Premier League. Man City are in good form and if Spurs are to win the match, they will have to give it their all.
