Match Analysis:
Defense:
Tottenham got their first clean sheet in 13 games. The defense line was solid against West Brom and they made no mistakes in the active play of the match.
Davies linked up well with the attacking players. He made many runs going forward and contributed defensively. He whipped in a few crosses, but no one was in the box to meet it.
Sanchez had an okay match. He was caught ball watching a goal, but it was luckily called for offside.
Toby was solid and was the main man in the middle of the defense. He dealt with the attacking pressure from West Brom which eventually led to a clean sheet.
Aurier was the best player in the back 4 against West Brom. He was in the build up to most of Tottenham's chances and was solid defensively. He was taken off in the 68th minute due to a calf injury.
Midfield:
The midfield duo of Hojberg and Ndombele prevailed West Brom's midfield.
Hojberg was the heart of Tottenham's attacking chances and defensive work. He was solid in the holding position and dropped into the back 4 when required. He also got the assist for Kane's goal, which was a good pass from him.
Ndombele was able to create space for the attacking players by dribbling and passing through West Brom's midfield.
Attack:
Tottenham created many chances which could have all led to goals. There was not one attacker from the starting XI that disappointed.
The presence of Harry Kane in the team changed the mentality of the Spurs attack completely. Kane had many chances at goal, but only managed to score 1. However, he played deeper which allowed the other attackers to make runs.
Son Heung Min was quiet in the first half, but managed to pick himself up and score a goal in the second half. Hopefully his form is getting better because Spurs will need everything they have for the next couple of matches.
What a match for Lucas Moura. His energy, pace, and dribbling ability weaved through West Brom's defense. He didn't get a goal to highlight his performance, but his incredible run assisted Son's goal.
Lamela made a statement to Jose Mourinho with his performance. Lamela provided energy to the attackers which allowed many chances to be made. Lamela has surely impressed Jose today.
Tottenham play Everton next in Round 5 of the FA Cup. Tottenham will have to give it all they got to an in-form Everton side. The two sides have met in the opening match of the Premier League which resulted in a 1-0 Everton win. Tottenham have trophy ambitions this season, so they will want to progress in the FA Cup.
